There is an issue with the alleged early attempt to take the city as cited in the article by this: "Honorat de Bueil, Seigneur of Racan ordered a surprise attack on the city on November 9, 1572. The city was occupied by the forces of the Seigneur of Racan but the Huguenots, under Mayor Johnanneau and Captain Lafleur, were able to regain control of the fortress after an armed resistance lasting 17 hours." According to the separate article on Seigneur of Racan, this gentleman wasn't even alive at the time! Other sources, for example Lauro Martines (2013) cite a "Monsieur de Fontaines" who tried to enter the city in October.
