Origin of SASI[edit]

Prior to my edit, the page stated there was anecdotal evidence that SASI was developed at Shugart Associates as early as 1974. It predates my joining SA in 1982, but based upon conversations with engineers who did SASI, I’m pretty sure it did not start until 1979. Any evidence to the contrary would be appreciated.

Origin of 5¼-inch FDD[edit]

I have added a good reference, a discussion with some of the people involved in Shugart about the development of floppy drives. It has two (maybe three) different stories about the development of the 5.25 inch floppy so I changed that part of the article. Maybe it is the same story told with three different views. Anyhow, the discussion is really interesting and I recommend anyone who wants to edit his article to read it. It doesn't cover all of Shugart's story so I haven't removed the unreferenced template. Unfortunately based upon conversations with both Adkisson and Massaro the story as u posted it is not correct. I think I will have the Computer History Museum annotate the oral history to correct Massaro's mistaken recollection. I know this is OR but what do you do when the posting is incorrect. The referenced Oral History paragraph is immediately followed by the statement by another participant that "That's not exactly true." The Computer History Museum will shortly annotate the Oral History with a statement that the speaker agrees that his recollection is "not exactly true." I have no way to find out which story is the correct or if it is somewhere in the middle. A feasible background could be that the napkin story happened during that weekend. Then it is just a matter of point of view and selective telling the fun parts that makes it appear as two different stories. I think that the important thing is to keep the external link as it is a good story with a lot of details about Shugart told by insiders. I happened to read it two weeks prior to seeing this article and was looking for a way to add it as a reference. ScandinavianRockguy (talk) 11:18, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
