Torpedo[edit]

The reffed weight for the Mark VIII sounds wrong but its the only ref I have at the mo.GraemeLeggett (talk) 13:31, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Written simultaneously) I think we need to be a bit cautious about the suggested torpedo weight revision:

    • Barnes, on the Shril and Jackson on the Blackburd both agree on the 1,423 lb weight;
    • The difference between empty and loaded weights is given as 2650 lb (Shril) and 2,472 lb (Blackburd). Unless these numbers are both horribly wrong, neither machine could have carried a 3000 lb anything.
    • There seems to be (not my field) a WW2 21" Mark VIII torpedo of around 3000 lb, but is this the same model?

Minor point: we have two different ISBN's for what I think is an identical book (page numbers seem to be the same). I think the reason for this is that mine is a US ed marked Naval Institute Press but referring to Putnam. I'm happy to make my ISBN the same as yours to keep things simple, if you can confirm you are using the UK ed.TSRL (talk) 13:40, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My UK Barnes and James has ISBN 0-85177-819-4 (UK Putnam). They give (p.144) the weight of the Mark VIII as 1,423 lb. --TraceyR (talk) 14:06, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That seems fine then, it was only when I found a different value with a source ref that I felt obliged to alter it. GraemeLeggett (talk) 14:39, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
