Production set says: Hi![edit]
Hello, I’ve just been expanding the article on production sets in economics to a reasonably full size. I noticed a similarly titled article on cinematography and added ‘about’ hatnotes to link the two articles. However I don’t think the cinematography article is correctly titled: see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (plurals). Perhaps the plural was chosen to avoid a name clash. Can I suggest that the current article be renamed, eg. to ‘Film production set’ or ‘Production set (cinematography)’ or ‘Set (film production)’ or whatever seems best to people here. I don’t mind doing the renaming but don’t feel qualified to choose the title. Colin.champion (talk) 08:15, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- After a little more digging... the disambiguation page for set includes an entry for set construction which includes cinematography and never uses the expression ‘production set’. - I guess I should make my own decision. I’m plumping for ‘Set (film and TV scenery)’. This is reasonably consistent with Theatrical scenery and with Set construction, and with the fact that the word ‘set’ is normally used on its own when the context makes the meaning clear; and it avoids suggesting that film and TV need separate articles. When the term ‘set’ is too short to stand alone, the commonest amplification seems to be ‘film set’ (which has an entry in Collins online dictionary), but I don’t like this because it’ll encourage the creation of a separate article on TV sets. What is the difference, maybe those should be merged, set is not translated to any language like the linked article. Maybe just remove this and use as redirection. jcubic (talk) 12:24, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- That may be a good idea, but there are pages analogous to film set in other languages. The foreign language links from Theatrical scenery – eg. fr:Décor – apply to film and television as much as to theatre, whereas fr:Lieu de tournage is kept separate.
