Region XI[edit]

According to Sant'Angelo (rione of Rome), region XI lay outside the walls. Which article is correct?

Hallo, both are correct. You should not mix up regiones with rioni. This article is right, because it says that regio XI (Circus maximus, the valley between Palatine and Aventine hills) lies outside the walls.

The article about Sant'Angelo says that rione XI (Sant'Angelo) in the imperial age was part of regio IX (Circus Flaminius) which, being a part of the Campus Martius plain, lies outside the walls. Rione XI, not regio XI lied outside the walls.

In general, the progressive number of a rione has nothing to do with the progressive number of the augustan regio where the territory of the rione lies.

Incorrect image[edit]
