Can someone add a reference to this: "However, in 1716 - 1726 the Portuguese king João V ordered the construction of a 7 m tall tower so that the peak could reach 2000 m. The location of this tower is known as "Torre" ("Tower", literally translated)." -- I don't think that Portugal used metric system in the early 18th century.

There was no "metric system" before the French Revolution, but it is used now, as using other units now makes them impossible to figure. --Xyzt1234 (talk) 21:44, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
