does this make goldman 'dangerous'?[edit]

i see this line: "a danger that somebody who knew how to use this program could use it to manipulate markets in unfair ways." would that apply to goldman too? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.85.14.106 (talk) 03:37, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The quote is actually from the bank...it reads "The bank has raised the possibility that there is a danger that somebody who knew how to use this program could use it to manipulate markets in unfair ways"source.Smallman12q (talk) 23:01, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the bank raising that possibility in turn raises another question: If Goldman Sachs fears that the code could be dangerous in the hands of others, what's to say it wasn't just as dangerous in their hands? And Michael Lewis answers that in Flash Boys: Not quite, but only because Goldman Sachs wasn't as good at High Frequency Trading as most of the real High Frequency Traders. -- CRConrad (talk) 13:22, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In 1990 there was Soviet Union, not Russia.[edit]

So, he could emigrate from SU, but not from Russia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.35.165.136 (talk) 20:40, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do paywalled sources violate WP guidelines?[edit]

Kendal-K1, why do insist over and over that locked NYTimes articles be used as references when open reliable alternatives are available? — Preceding unsigned comment added by StrokeOfMidnight (talkcontribs) 23:59, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability of sources is covered in WP:V. Accessibility is covered in WP:PAYWALL. In particular, "Do not reject reliable sources just because they are difficult or costly to access." The New York Times is not difficult to access. Most libraries have copies. I have no objection to your adding other sources as long as we don't get citation clutter. If you seriously don't think the New York Times is a good source, you can take that up at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. Kendall-K1 (talk) 00:11, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
