Premature...[edit]

This article should have been redirected as Canis anthus anthus, not the species Canis anthus, which was going to get its own article in any case... Mariomassone (talk) 11:09, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, it must be noted that Canis anthus sensu Koepfli et al. is not just C. aureus anthus raised to the rank of a separate species, but it contains all African populations of golden jackal, including those assigned to the subspecies Canis a. algirensis (the Algerian jackal), Canis a. bea (the Serengeti jackal), Canis a. riparius, Canis aureus soudanicus (the variegated jackal) and Canis aureus lupaster (the Egyptian jackal). The supplementary material explicitly lists Canis lupaster Hemprich and Ehrenberg (1832), Canis riparius Hemprich and Ehrenberg (1832), Canis aureus algirensis Wagner (1841), Thos aureus bea Heller (1914) and Canis anthus soudanicus Thomas (1903) as junior synonyms of Canis anthus. It should therefore have an article separate from the one about the Senegalese subspecies. --Macrochelys (talk) 19:39, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
