I want something else[edit]

On this page and the main page it is stated that changing the lyrics from "I want nothing else" to 'I want someting else" somehow lessens the references to drugs. However couldn't the "something else" the narrator of the song wants be drugs? This has always been my interpretation of the song. When life is difficult a person looks for something else to get through that moment, and may turn to drugs such as Crystal Meth. ToyChristopher 19:37, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's often been my interpretation as well. The entire section is likely, as regards tone and content, encyclopedic, but surely poorly sourced, so I'll tag it for sourcing; of course, should you find any interpretations in notable publications that we might reference (as we do in sundry other songs), you should, to be sure, feel free to rework the section. I remember being very amused when this song came out--despite the lyrics, its catch beat & melody made it very popular in commercials, including several films, one of which (IIRC) was a Disney film, or at the very least some kind of family film. Anyone have a better memory and/or references?

The problem is that the structure makes way more sense as I want something else, not nothing else. If you listen closely, the first two times it is said, the chorus is preceded by "she said" or "you said" both referring to the same person, NOT the singer. This person wants to move on to life outside of drugs and says "goodbye." In the final verse, however, it switches to "I want" meaning the singer now wants to quit. Once again, he says "i'm not listening when you say goodbye" after saying that nothing is alright between them and referencing not wanting to come down. In the end, he wanted to quit, but through the song he couldn't.

Extra Verse[edit]

The article is correct in saying that the CD version has an extra verse not included in the radio or single versions of the song, but the lyrics given are incorrect; in fact, the ones given in the article are heard in all versions of the song. I'm replacing them with the ones that are actually stricken from the aforementioned versions of the song.Choiniej (talk) 17:50, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comparing the lyrics of the CD version to the lyrics heard in the video version currently found here (cue to around 2:43), the missing lyrics appear to be the following:

Feel myself hovering off the ground
I'm scared I'm not coming down (no, no)
And I won't run for my life
She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile
But nothing is all right, all right

Caption vs. body[edit]

Discrepancy between Neve 3078 and Neve 3038. Caption says one. Body of text says another. I'm not sure which it was. Does someone know?
