There was a Selfridges in Oxford for several years in the 1970s and 80s. If anyone has further information can we correct.

. Although the Bullring image does not show quite as much of the store, the image currently in this article appears to be focused on the church in front with Selfridges in the background.

To be honest, I think we should have a picture of the original London store as the lead image. Either picture of the Future Systems design in Birmingham is fine as a second image. I quite like Image:IMGP0463.JPG (the current image) for its clash of architectural styles, but I agree it doesn't make it clear which building is the real subject. Image:Bullring_birmingham.jpg is OK for showing the surface detail, however it is rather small, and in many ways Image:Birmingham Selfridges building.jpg used on blobitecture might be better than either. -- Solipsist 11:31, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

The London one is hard to photograph - finding somewhere above street level would help, and there are constant buses in the day, and its very wide. Will have another try sometime, find a good location. Justinc 11:58, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

I have placed the "Bullring article image" photo I refer to above in the article for the time being as the other photo (appearing above with caption "the current image") was removed by user:OrphanBot citing lack of copyright status. I agree that an image of the Oxford street front of the world-famous Selfrdiges London store would be best so if you can take a good photograph of this that would be great. I think a day-time photo would be best if you can manage to get one inbettween the constant double-decker buses. Canderra 15:24, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Selfridges London

I've added to this talk page a photograph I took of the London Selfridges in 2003, from a passing bus. I don't think it's an especially good picture (particularly in terms of its technical quality), so I'll leave it to others to decide whether it's worth including on the article page and, if so, where. Store sizes?

What is going on with this paragraph?

Between 1998 and 2003, the store supplemented its 540,000-square-foot (50,000 m²) main store with a 150,000-square-foot (14,000 m²) store at Trafford Centre in Manchester, a 125,000-square-foot (11,600 m²) store in Exchange Square, also in Manchester, and a 160,000-square-foot (10,000 m²) store in the Birmingham Bull Ring shopping complex.

So the Selfridges in Birmingham is 35,000 square foot larger than the Exchange Square store but in feet squared 1,600 smaller? Surely this is an error? Asdfasdf1231234 (talk) 14:06, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Removed "Rumours & Speculation" section

I removed the above-named section since it is just composed of rumours, and without any references doesn't seem to me to be worth including. "In the last month" is unhelpful too. Here is the complete text of the removed section, in case anyone can source it:

In the last month, it has been rumoured that a Hong Kong based company intends to launch a bid for Selfridges. While this has yet to have been announced, sources verify that a major player in the wholesale fashion manufacturing scene in Asia is very interested in owning the department store.

Edit warring over image inclusion

There seemes to be a bit of an edit war over the inclusion of an image purporting to show the Trafford Centre branch of Selfridges. I've not been involved in previous edits, but it seems to me that a) it's not necessary to illustrate every branch and b) where an image is included, it should add value to the article. To be honest, I couldn't tell that the image showed a branch of Selfridges until I 'drilled down' and looked at it at its full resolution of 2,980×3,840 pixels.

WP:IMAGES says that images "where the subject in the image is too small, hidden in clutter, ambiguous or otherwise not obvious, should not be used" and gives example images to illustrate this point. It adds that "Images must be relevant to the article they appear in and be significant relative to the article's topic".

On reflection I think that the Trafford Centre images fails to meet the criteria for inclusion. The branch of Selfridges is 'hidden in clutter' and 'not obvious' in the photo. The fact that there may be no better picture available of that store does not justify its inclusion. There are sufficient images already on the page to illusrate the architectural diversity of various Selfridges stores and the Trafford Centre image adds little value to the article. On that basis, I am removing the image from article. If you feel that it deserves to be included, then please state the case here. DrFrench (talk) 20:48, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Quite agree with the above. The only reason Joshii is so hell bent on keeping it included is because he is too blinded by Mancunian bias to even read policy or make a logical conclusion: the image barely shows Selfridges. 78.109.182.8 (talk) 15:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I agree too,not to get personal with Joshii, but he is very much aimed at Manchester and nothing else, I did try a dialogue as the general feeling was it was Trafford Centre, which it was. Controversy regarding Selfridge's window display.

Hey, all. I was wondering if the most recent Selfridge's controversy would be mentioned in this article? For those that do not know, recently Selfridges took down a window display that had one of Alexander McQueen's designs "hanging" from gallows. The reason why it was so controversial and thus removed was due to Alexander McQueen's suicide via hanging in February of this year.

Was Selfridges the first store to use such display windows? Their windows may be impressive, but unless they are historically important, their inclusion here is not appropriate. Every city department store in the states has such windows, many more famous than Selfridges.76.190.235.140 (talk) 16:01, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Tommy Robinson Friend Refused Service

I'm opting for removal from, at the very least, the top part of this article. Although, indeed, the story made the news, the minuscule coverage received does not signify anything denoting 'notoriety'. Secondly, it doesn't really add much to the encyclopedic quality of the article as the link between the EDL leader and his friend is somewhat tenuously.
