John Stewart[edit]

I was being precise in declaring that John Stewart was sentenced to transportation, as that was stated in the source cited. It is also noted elsewhere in the work cited, as a simple internal search on Google Books proves.Raellerby (talk) 00:18, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Raellerby: This is an archaic term few readers would understand. I read a few times in the sources that he was "banished", but did not feel Stewart's fate significant enough to discuss in detail. Please consider rewording your edit. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:38, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Magnolia677:It was an interesting development arising out of the 1837 Rebellion, and there have been articles dealing with other rebels that had been transported to Australia. Upon investigating the mention that there was a petition made under an Act passed in 1837, I found out that this was made in order to forestall being sentenced to death for high treason. I have made the necessary mention in the article, as it is very noteworthy. History is always less straightforward than we wish to believe.Raellerby (talk) 00:51, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of Settlers[edit]

Hi @Magnolia677! I saw we had a disagreement on the origin of the settlers. One, even the settlers from Vermont were Scottish. Two, none of the settlers were original since Indigenous people were already there (Mississauga Nation specifically). The source I'm using is "Halton's Scotch Block" (2009, Dills & Brown)^[1] Emily CA (MPL) (talk) 20:29, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Emily CA (MPL): If your source specifically states that the settlers in Scotch Block--who arrived from Vermont--were of Scottish background, then please add that, along with a source. But moving to Canada from the United States does not make you a Scottish immigrant. Also, if you have a source to support that some indigenous group lived specifically in Scotch Block (not in Southern Ontario), then please add it. Otherwise, the first settlers in Scotch Block were these folks. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:45, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
