Philip Boren[edit]

I would guess that Morton Schwabacher's son-in-law Philip Boren is a descendant of Carson Boren, a member of the Denny Party generally credited with founding Seattle, but I don't have a citation for that. Scope and sources[edit]

The sources I have used are less than ideal, though they are not bad. Occasionally they disagree on spelling of names, which I've noted in footnotes. In general, they seem better on the people than on the businesses. I do not have exact dates of founding, dissolution, name changes, etc. of the various businesses.

Several people mentioned in this article probably deserve articles of their own. Bailey Gatzert already has one. Nathan Eckstein and his daughter Johanna Eckstein certainly deserve them; others may also, for example Babette Schwabacher Gatzert or some of the Bloch family mentioned in passing. I'd suggest keeping any further biographical data about the three original Schwabacher brothers here, as well as anything about any Schwabacher family businesses that don't merit a 500+ word treatment of their own. If someone goes deeper on other individuals (500+ words), that would probably merit spinning out.
