Old talk from Schaerbeek[edit]

It should be Schaarbeek. That's the original name. The french one is just a (verry bad) translation. Why al the Brussels cities stands with their french name on WikiEN ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.240.94.150 (talkcontribs) 14:49, June 21, 2005 (UTC).

To me Schaerbeek is the original name and as Flemish language evolved, it changed to Schaarbeek. The French-speaking people use the old Flemish name instead of the new one to differentiate i think but i have no sources for this... Julien Tuerlinckx 12:37, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cities in the Brussels Region are referred to by their French names in the English media. Hence for instance the Laeken Declaration. 81.164.101.57

Old talk from Schaarbeek[edit]

A naming survey for this article (among others) has started at Talk:Brussels-Capital Region#Names survey. Markussep 11:45, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The preliminary result of the survey is that this article will be moved to Schaerbeek, since this name is predominantly used in English language texts. For details see Talk:Brussels-Capital Region#Names survey. If you would like to comment, please do so at Talk:Brussels-Capital Region#Discussion and conclusion. Page moves[edit]

I have moved this article from Schaarbeek to Schaerbeek per a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves which cited Talk:Brussels-Capital Region#Names survey. There was already a non-trivial history at Schaerbeek, so I swapped that history to Schaarbeek, where it can be found now. Edits previously made to Schaarbeek can now be found here. Names survey, result[edit]

Between 23 December 2006 and 28 January 2007 there has been a survey about which names the articles for the municipalities in the Brussels region should have. The municipalities in question have different names in French and Dutch, the two official languages of the region. A majority of contributors to the survey prefers using one single same over using both names in the title. This single name should follow English usage, which has been determined using domain specific Google searches.

The final result of the survey is that:

Details about the survey can be found at Talk:Brussels-Capital Region/NamingArchive3. Markussep 18:35, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation?[edit]

It would be better if there is the pronunciation of the name in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Egressio (talkcontribs) 23:23, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Dutch pronunciation would be something like this in IPA: ['sxa:rbe:k]. French probably similar, but with the stress on the second syllable. Markussep Talk 13:34, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1st line[edit]

Sorry, nothing to do with any language preferences, but where the article name is already decided, this should be the 1st on the order of the 1st line. All respect to the Vlams name and history (I used to live happily in Zaventem), but it just looks illogical and wrong to have inconsistencies between the article name and Introduction. I think Talk:Brussels-Capital Region/NamingArchive3 applies here also. --83.170.113.250 (talk) 09:02, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
