On 4 October 2012, it was proposed that this article be moved to Saskatoon Crescents. The result of the discussion was not moved.

Comment. I've done some research on this and it appears that the Sheiks changed their name to the Crescents in 1923 and kept it the Crescents until 1926. Here is Harry Cameron's profile at Legends of Hockey with the change from Crescents to Sheiks in 1926. Here is Newsy Lalonde's change in 1923. It looks like they remained the Crescents for the three years in between. If this is correct, they were the Sheiks for at least one year (1922-1923) and Crescents for three. I can't find a nickname for the year they were in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw. This is the best I could find. Now, I'm basing this on the years the franchise was in a "major" league, which is four years of the WCHL and one year in the WHL. Patken4 (talk) 20:29, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All three hockey encyclopedia's that I have note that the Saskatoon hockey team changed their name from the Sheiks to the Crescents for most of their existence. They differ on when the change was made though: Total Hockey notes them changing (and staying) the Crescents for the 22-23 season, while The Hockey Compendium notes them changing for the 23-24 season.18abruce (talk) 09:31, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I should add though that there is obviously some level of confusion. The Official Guide to the Players of the Hockey Hall of Fame lists Bill Cook as having played for the Sheiks in 1922-23 and the Crescents in 1923-26. Reso lute 15:08, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I just looked through my recently obtained copy of Trail of the Stanley Cup, Vol. 1, and it mentions the following names for each year of Saskatoon: 1922: Sheiks; 1923: Sheiks; 1924: mentions change to Crescents; 1925: Crescents; 1926: Crescents; then with the demise of the WHL they are not mentioned in the second volume. I realise this just helps add to the confusion, and am aware that Coleman did make errors, but figured it was worth noting for this discussion.
