Issues[edit]

@Skihound24: it's not completely clear who James, Thomas and Robert are, in the Personal Life section. Sons, presumably, but this is at best inferred from the previous sentence.

I edited the lead to made it more of a summary of the article (rather than holding info which was not in the body of the article). I've also removed one or two turns of phrase, such as "his life was changed", which works in Hello! Magazine, but works less well on WP ... if is not for WP authors to make statements life that; the article should speak for itself. There are still issues with the text - e.g. "Holt decided to turn over his invaluable patent" is undercut when we learn that its value was, in fact, £30 per year. "Holt is reputed to have taken heavy loss in the legal battle" ... reputed by whom? Why is there no citation at the end of the 2nd paragraph in the life section ... where did the info come from. Ditto the last paragraph. Why is there only one cite in the Personal life section? Why are Patents a subsection of Personal life?

So ... lots of loose threads we can pick away at in this article. But that's always the case; don't be dismayed. It's a very good start; thank you for writing it. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ethologist: a scientist who studies animal behaviors. They may study domestic animals, livestock or wildlife to gain insight into their natural patterns of behavior. So how does "Being an avid ethologist he obtained a swatch of the material and brought it back to England" make sense? --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
