District 1[edit]

Some reports claim that Col Djibrilla Hima Hamidou is leader of military district 1, others say Djibo. 75.41.110.200 (talk) 14:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Folks here will have to source it and enter it, but I can guarantee Djibrilla Hima "Pele" Hamidou is Commandant de la zone de Défense n° 1. Also note, the press has tripped up over the names Major Djibrilla Adamou Harouna (Major is an NCO rank, not the Anglo-Saxon officer) identified as the commander of the assault on the Palace by Burkinabe authorities, and Colonel Abdoulaye Adamou Harouna, head of the ECOWAS fast reaction force, number 2 or 3 in the junta. Salou Djibo is chef d'escadron, promoted in late 2008, head of the Niamey supply company, which holds the heavy weapons in the capitol. Chef d'escadron is the equivalent of the Anglo-Saxon "Major" (adding further confusion amongst the press. I follow this closely, and as of Sunday night Niamey time, there is no promotion announced. Correction, Djibrilla Adamou Harouna appeared at a rally yesterday. He's a Captain of the Paratroops. Red beret, green/gold bars. The Red beret brown uniform, red /gold bars is interior security (FNIS). Blue barracks cap is Air corps. Army is is green beret, green/gold bars: see photos from the 18th press conference and the Salou Djibo and Pele meeting with ECOWAS this Saturday. Also see french language fr:Grades_de_l'armée_française for rank insignia. T L Miles (talk) 23:00, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a semi-official bio, published today in the state run newspaper le Sahel : Chef d'Escadron Salou Djibo, Président du Conseil Suprême pour la Restauration de la Démocratie, Chef de l'Etat : militaire discret et respecté. It has fuller details of promotions, education, units, and missions. T L Miles (talk) 15:34, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rank?[edit]

Someone has added a note in the infobox saying that he's no longer a chef d'escadron but a general. No source has been provided, and I can't find one to back it up. I've put a {{cn}} tag for now, but if it can't be sourced within a few days, I suggest removing it altogether. Aridd (talk) 08:19, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now someone's added the rank of General to the opening line of the article. Since "chef d'escadron" is sourced and "general" is not, I'm reverting, and removing the mention of him being a general. It can be put back in if a source is provided. Aridd (talk) 10:54, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
