Fair use rationale for Image:SaintVincentCollegeLogoCrest.jpg[edit]

Image:SaintVincentCollegeLogoCrest.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I have added a lot of info, with more to come. I rearranged the information on President Towey.Pressman (talk) 11:43, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni[edit]

We are getting close to an edit war here. Can we please discuss the notable alumni section? This is how it stands right now:

I propose that we remove all of the red linked name per notability of the person. If the person was notable they would have a wikipedia page.--Guerillero | My Talk 00:26, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That the person have a wikipedia page is a somewhat arbitrary standard. Seremet is noteworthy not only because his company published the well-known Grand Theft Auto games, but also that he started it while a student. Wikiant (talk) 00:47, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree that it's an arbitrary standard but I do believe it's too high of a standard. WP:N only applies to the subjects of articles, not to other article contents. ElKevbo (talk) 02:51, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How do we decide what is noteable enough to be included? If allow who we "feel" is noteable enough that opens pandora'a box for a whole host of questionable people. However if the person is noteable enough to have a page then they are also noteable enough to be in this section. I wonder if there is some hard fast policy about these sections?--Guerillero | My Talk 20:52, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
WP:UNIGUIDE says that they must have an article but that directly conflicts with WP:N so I ignore that part of the recommended guidelines. I understand your reservations about not having a hard-and-fast rule but there aren't hard-and-fast rules governing the other sections of articles and things seem to work ok. If there really are enough interesting alumni that the list grows too long then just split it out into a separate article. And we can all object if someone adds one or more alumni that are clearly minor figures that shouldn't even be mentioned in an encyclopedia article. ElKevbo (talk) 03:51, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that a rule isn't possible. Why not simply make an argument to the other editors? We're (I'm assuming) all alumni, so collectively we're probably a reasonable body to decide the matter. I dislike democracy, and WP guidelines favor consensus over votes. So, let us make arguments for the individual entries. If there is a substantial minority that are against, then that would indicate a lack of consensus. What is, "substantial"? Beats me, but let's employ reason and the assumption of good faith and see where that leads us. Wikiant (talk) 13:05, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Are you assuming that we're all alumni of this institution? ElKevbo (talk) 16:08, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies section[edit]

Should the section on the dismissmal and lawsuit of Fr. Mark Gruber. The case has been settled and it seems enough time has passed. That would also seem to apply to the section on Jim Towey and the faculty, since Towey is no longer president of the college. Thoughts? Pressman (talk) 08:18, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)[edit]

Editors interested in this article may find the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 of interest. This workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Many current ambassadors come from the body of students, faculty and university staff; it is a fun adventure, and adds to one resume/CV, to boot :) If it sounds interesting, feel free to ask me any questions, or to come to the workshop. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:32, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notable alumni nominee[edit]

Abbythecat (talk) 02:33, 3 December 2013 (UTC)I propose adding Richard H. Campbell to the 'notable alumni' section. He created and co-wrote the first book about biblical films. A copy of his book is in the SVC library. It's called THE BIBLE ON FILM: A CHECKLIST, 1897-1980, Scarecrow Press, 1981 (Mike Pitts, co-author). Campbell was born in Latrobe and still lives here. This is a 'real book', not 'self-published or 'vanity press'. It's a hardcover book that has been cited in several notable books, such as THE JESUS I NEVER KNEW by Philip Yancey; THE ANCIENT WORLD IN SILENT CINEMA by Dr. Michelakis and Prof. Wyke from Cambridge University; THE BIBLE ON SILENT FILM: SPECTACLE, STORY AND SCRIPTURE IN THE EARLY CINEMA, also from Cambridge, by David Shepherd; and IMAGES OF THE WORD: HOLLYWOOD'S BIBLE AND BEYOND, by Shepherd as well, from the Society of Biblical Literature Semeia Studies. I don't want to just add his name if it will be deleted, so are there any objections to adding him? Speak now ...AbbythecatAbbythecat (talk) 02:33, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest creating a separate article for Campbell and then piping him to the St. Vincent College article. A stand-alone article is sufficient to establish notability. Make sure to demonstrate his connection to St. Vincent's in his article. Good luck! Wkharrisjr (talk) 14:13, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies section[edit]

i agree with pressman above ... with regard to the comments u made about the wiki page for st.vincent college and the entries for jim towey and gruber. they should be removed since they both are not working for SV college anymore ..... ( from wikipedia policy ) Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives; the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment. This policy applies to any living person mentioned in a BLP, whether or not that person is the subject of the article, and to material about living persons in other articles and on other pages, including talk pages.[3] ........ The burden of evidence rests with the editor who adds or restores material. ( This is wikipedia policy ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neosurfer (talkcontribs) 18:08, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia records both the good and bad parts of an instution's history and is not a forum for the college's advancement. Both of these controversies are sourced from high quality newspapers and national publications including the Chronicle of Higher Education. None of this is a violation of the policy. Please stop trying to whitewash the article. --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 20:36, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
