I'm going to remove it. I'm not sure why that sentence is there in the first place, as Merkeson is a cast member of the series and seems to be in every episode anyway.

Fair use image[edit]

Wikipedia wants images that are freely available to anybody, whereas most publicity photos are still owned by somebody who wants to retain control. Of course Wikipedia makes exceptions where there is no free alternative available (somebody's dead, for example, or to depict a character rather than an actor), but in the case of a living celebrity that's not a realistic argument - theoretically, you could attend a film festival or award ceremony and take a pic. I don't understand this statement[edit]

"Although it was rumored that her character would die of the cervical cancer she was diagnosed with at the beginning of the season, this was not the case." by "she" does it mean the actress was diagnosed with cancer, or the character? and what was "not the case" that she had cancer or that she died from it. The character Van Buren was diagnosed with cancer, not the actress. It was pretty clear that the charcter did indeed have cancer, but the series ended with her situation u resolved. Wolfe wanted to go another season in order to beat Gunsmoke, but that wasn't to be, so there's no telling how this might have been intended to play out. What, no picture? MS. Epatha Merkerson's character as NYPD's Homicide Police detective, Lt. Van Buren was iconic for television, as she did not play a "glam" female role in prime-time "police drama", such as Angie Dickinson, nor Teresa Graves. In fact, Ms. Merkerson's character was without precedent, to my knowledge. The waning years of "Gloria Steinem"'s sham female liberation movement publication-I wager-didn't give two pence of attention to Ms. Merkerson's character, nor the ground-breaking role she played on "Law and Order". Birth Name[edit]

Her birth name is Sharon Epatha Merkerson. I have provided sources that verify this information, yet user Delpl257 insists on reverting my changes.
