Merge to Bluebottle (character)

His only claim to fame is that he was the inspiration for Bluebottle. There is no need for there to be a separate article on him.--Drat (Talk) 12:15, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree that he is most famous as an inspiration for Bluebottle, but he's one of a rare breed of British eccentrics and as such worth recognising in his own right. JulesHG 09:16, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm the originator of this article. I certainly wouldn't have created it if I thought the only relevance was as a sideshow for the Goons. I went out of my way to add corroborative and extending detail regarding his later activities. It's a pity the links to YouTube couldn't stay in. It's tragicomedy to watch this old fat man in a delapidated scout uniform attempting to entertain a crowd. If Bluebottle did grow old, he might turn out like this. I am the sole dissenting vote, I guess, I vote yes to the merge. Here's my key question: if I understand the Hayward article correctly, it was only after he learned of the Bluebottle link and was able to exploit that association that he earned any degree of notability. Paedophile?

Quote: The eccentric ex-comedian who inspired Sir Harry Secombe's character, Bluebottle, in Prince Charles's favourite show The Goons, was exposed in court yesterday as a paedophile. Ruxton Hayward, 69, cut out photos of infants as young as three months from Mothercare-type catalogues to mount them on to pictures of other children in sex acts. At Horseferry Road magistrates court, London, Hayward, dressed in a green Scoutmaster's outfit, pleaded guilty to making indecent photographs of children under 16, contained in a child porn catalogue called Bambina Sex.
