A30 southbound bridge[edit]

When was the A30 southbound bridge built? It seems likely that it was in the 2000s, with the widening of the M25. Did the 1961 bridge carry both directions of the A30 until then? Can we find a source? Verbcatcher (talk) 03:20, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to rename article[edit]

I propose we rename this, from M25 Runnymede Bridge to Runnymede Bridges, for three main reasons:

The article describes two bridges, not one.
The bridges carry the M25 and the A30, and not merely the M25.
The bridges are called The Runnymede Bridge and the New Runnymede Bridge.

Oppose It is a tricky one as no other shared bridge comes to mind. However, that has never stopped me having a ponder!!! I think deference to the motorway network is something of a must, based not on heady preferences of the powerful mixture of motorheads and concrete engineers who contribute to that topic and would call anything a motorway or ancillary to it if they possibly could, but rather on relative traffic volume and the strategic importance of this bit of motorway. I really think to call it the Runnymede Bridges (not seen on maps) would be 1. A little pedantic and 2. failing to recognise the intrinsic junctions affecting this section of road between the two roads.- Adam37 Talk 13:15, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose, we should treat this as a single bridge with multiple parallel spans, see twin bridges. Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Delaware Memorial Bridge also have parallel spans. Bing Maps appears to show three spans: M25 + A30 southbound, M25 northbound and A30 northbound. Verbcatcher (talk) 19:56, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed per WP:CRITERIA and WP:COMMONNAME. Policy dictates that we use the name as used by reliable sources unless there is a convincing reason otherwise (such as there being another topic with the same name). Consistency in title between articles is an aim, though it should not result in the artificial renaming of topics as this can result in the real world renaming of the topic via Wikipedia mirrors. Post-policy-supported-move support The Runnymede Bridge is a bridge at runnymede that happens to convey the M25 across it. That does not make M25 part of its name. Cf. 99%. SN54129 11:13, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
