Merge into a section of Rosary (or the other way around)[edit]

The article on the Rosary already hasother rosary based prayers. Makes sense to me to merge this article into that section; or maybe the other way around, to make the article on the Rosary shorter. Prudencio Clemente (talk) 17:50, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Merge The Rosary page is inherently about Marian prayers. This page also involves Christocentric prayers. Hence the 2 pages need to exist separately and refer to each other. That was the reason I started this page separately, rather than make a new section in the Rosary page. History2007 (talk) 17:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see. What about the other way around? (post your comment on that article's discussion page). Makes sense to me, to make that article shorter, as I said. (BTW the mainstream Rosary also seems "christocentric" to me: "the Lord is with thee... blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus"). Prudencio Clemente (talk) 18:00, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OTOH there are other "non-marian based" alternative forms of the Rosary in that article. What do you make of that? Prudencio Clemente (talk) 18:06, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, most of those include Ave's or Hail Mary's. These others do not have the word Mary/Maria that refers to the Blessed Virgin in them. History2007 (talk) 00:06, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well: the Chaplet of Divine Mercy has one Hail Mary at the beginning, so your criterion fails somewhat here. The usage of the Hail Mary is not as thorough as in other forms, but it's still there. On the other hand, again, the article on Rosary includes explicitly "non-marian" prayers, like the paternoster rosary and the "trinitarian" rosaries. At least those seem to belong here, according to your criterion, right? Prudencio Clemente (talk) 16:46, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please, don't get me wrong: I'm not opposed to have both articles separate (I kind of see your point); but you have to follow your criteria consistently, and that's precisely what's missing here. Cheers. Prudencio Clemente (talk) 16:46, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think those belong here. Although Chaplet of Divine Mercy contains one Hail Mary, it is mostly non-Marian. The "traditional rosary" includes mostly Hail Mary's with a few Our Fathers and meditation on the life sequence of Jesus. Rosary of Holy Wounds has no Hail Mary at all. So My guess is that the others are best placed here. Cheers History2007 (talk) 18:17, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After checking these related articles it seems to me that this article perhaps aims to be more comprehensive than the article on the marian rosary: the title and introduction suggest that this article covers any sort of catholic prayer based on the 50 beads of the marian rosary: if this is so, any non-catholic, non 50 bead based rosary is excluded. I'm sorry, but I can't still see some inconsistency here. Prudencio Clemente (talk) 00:52, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but the wording of the introduction to this article also includes marian prayers explicitly; so all forms of catholic rosary must be mentioned here, like the mainstream form has been. Prudencio Clemente (talk) 01:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, No need for apologies. My feeling:

  • You have good intentions and should expand this article.
  • I am busy for 10 days, so please expand, add other rosaries here (brief section on each)
  • Let us discuss in 10 days.

Merger[edit]

Your merge looks good to me so far. But it probably needs 3 sections of 3 each say. 10 items is too many in one section. And Other Christian rosaries probably belongs here. Cheers History2007 (talk) 15:32, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also might want to come up with a better order (i.e. alphabetical or something else) right now the order seems random. Should also add either "See also" or "Main" tags to the sections that have large articles on it.Marauder40 (talk) 15:42, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree with Marauder. Probably structure, then order. History2007 (talk) 16:06, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further suggestion[edit]

Two good things happened here by you two guys:

  • Better grouping of types of rosary into 2 pages.
  • The suggestion for even further structure

Now let me suggest a step further, and please let me know what you think here, on this page:

We now have a set of "grouped prayers" and devotions e.g. Prayers to Jesus, Devotions to Christ and Marian devotions. These are grouped mostly based on the direction of the prayer in some sense, e.g. tp Jesus rather than Archangel Michael. How about a grouping based on topic? As a first example of a topic, let us take Peace because the peace Prayer of Saint Francis (or whoever wrote it) is so nice and so well known. So the question is:

  • What are the other peace oriented prayers that can be grouped with it?

They don't need to be super Catholic, just peace oriented, etc. I will also think and see what happend in a week or two. Cheers History2007 (talk) 08:45, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
