Cartoons..?[edit]

A lot of metalheads Iv'e met told me the after McGovney left Metallica he drew sevreal famous cartoons, including the Power Puff Girls and Samurai Jack.

Can anyone prove or disprove this?

I don't necessarily know that I could disprove that, but I looked at the page on those cartoons and see no reference to the man in question. I doubt he had anything to do with them. 72.195.182.192 19:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

11-28-07 I replaced the Ron McGovney interview link with the link to the original source at HardRadio.com. and now?[edit]

What is he doing now? Because the article says "occupation: musician", but the same article says he's no longer playing in any band... 80.230.228.94 (talk) 16:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lives in North Carolina and works on a local factory, according to the German wiki. I couldn't find any reliable sources to confirm his whereabouts. There's this myspace page and I know he did an interview for VH1 some time ago. BanRay 10:53, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you. 80.230.250.40 (talk) 15:32, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have heard from sources that he is living in old fort, north carolina. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.71.65.227 (talk) 00:33, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Electrocuted[edit]

I saw once in an interview with McGovney and Dave Mustaine (think it was a behind the scenes Megadeth DVD) were McGovney said that the final straw was when Mustaine poored beer on his bass and he recieved an electric shock. Does anyone else know of this and can include it in the article? ArdClose (talk) 16:55, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I red about this fact in the Joel McIver's book on Metallica. --87.4.128.28 (talk) 22:58, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ulrich[edit]

This article says that Tanner introduced Ulrich to the band, but on the Metallica article it says Ulrich met Hetfield through advertisments. ArdClose (talk) 17:03, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scottish Descent[edit]

Who cares? If you're going to put something like that then why not something about his shoe size, dental records, lung capacity, year and model of his first car...--Beetfarm Louie (talk) 03:20, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why to mention that Barack Obama's dad is from Kenya and his mom is from English, Irish, German and Cherokee descent? 87.70.39.24 (talk) 14:30, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Obama's background is much more interesting and relevant than McGovney's. Unless we can get a source confirming that one of his grandparents or parents were born outside the US, it's not really important. His last name is a bit of a clue anyway.--MartinUK (talk) 20:57, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Irish Descent[edit]

Actually, he had Irish descent. His great-great-great-grandfather, James McGovney (also spelt McGiveney on his passage ticket to America [1], which is Mag Dhuibhne [2] in Irish), was born in Lisburn, County Antrim in Ireland, in 1754 and migrated to Pennsylvania first (where he married Nancy Crockett) and then settled in Adams County, Ohio (family history here: [3]). McGivney would indeed be pronounced 'McGovney' in a thick Belfast-area accent. Though Mag Dhuibhne is a County Cavan clan, the family resided in the Protestant town of Lisburn, in nearby County Antrim.

Thomas McGovney (Ireland)

James McGovney I (born 1754, Lisbun, Ireland, died 1826, Liberty Township, Adams, Ohio)
James McGovney II (born 1789, Augusta, Hampshire VA, died 1880, Green Township, Adams, Ohio)
James McGovney III (born 1831 West Union, Ohio, died 1905 Milo, Missouri)
Joseph Clifton McGovney (born 1878 Ohio, died 1959 Stanislaus, CA)
Joseph Ray McGovney (born 1914 Missouri, died 1983 Los Angeles, CA)
Ronald Joseph McGovney (born 1963, Norwalk, CA). [4]

Ron is likely 5.6% Irish overall, with substantial English, German and Scottish ancestry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.228.233.21 (talk) 23:59, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
