40,000 lines[edit]

Constans's edition has 30,316 lines. I suspect none of the individual manuscripts have more than 30,000 lines, but if you include all the variants given by Constans in his appendices, you might end up with 40,000 lines in total, but if you took the average number of lines in all the manuscripts (about 53 of them!) it would be more like 25,000.
