Separate the list of bishops?[edit]

Should this link to the german article de:Bistum Basel instead of de:Liste der Bischöfe von Basel, which is a list of the bishops rather than an article? --Astrokey44 08:20, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should! Also, it seems to me that there should be a Bishopric of Basel article covering (at least) the period up to the conquest of the Bishopric by Napoleon, and that this one should cover the history of the modern diocese. They are two different entities, although there is also continuity between them. How are bishops elected/chosen/appointed in this diocese?[edit]

How are bishops in this diocese selected? I know there are still a handful of dioceses in Europe in which bishops are elected, rather than directly appointed by the pope. Is this one of them?

The Kurt Koch article states, "On 21 August 1995, Koch was elected Bishop of Basel; his election was confirmed by Pope John Paul II on the following 6 December." The Felix Gmür article states, "Gmür was chosen by an 18-head advisory council of the cantonal bishopric on 8 September but his nomination had to be approved by the pope.... Gmür was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI on 23 November 2010." These give hints as to how bishops are chosen in this diocese, but seem to be contradictory (Koch was "elected" locally, then "confirmed" by the pope; Gmür was "chosen" locally but then "appointed" by the pope. — Lawrence King ^(talk) 22:44, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
