Discussion[edit]

So why no mention of his starring as the Captain of the submarine in "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea"???

Previous Talk[edit]

Well done to NickBurns for creating the article. I have added his UPI biography as a link. Capitalistroadster 19:27, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

I don't believe that the picture is Robert Sterling. Does anyone agree?Longinus876 (talk) 13:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is his baseball-playing father the right one?[edit]

The main text currently says Sterling was "The son of Major League baseball player Bill Hart" and links to a page for a William Franklin Hart, described at that page as a pitcher. This contradicts some other references, which I show below.

I wonder what the original reference is that links this page to the Bill Hart page? Was it the result of scholarly research or was it a wild guess?

Sterling's obituary in the May/30/2006 Kentucky New Era says his father was "Chicago Cubs catcher William S. Hart." But the guy wikipedia says is his father never played for any Chicago team. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=266&dat=20060530&id=cvsrAAAAIBAJ&sjid=N20FAAAAIBAJ&pg=5868,5698308 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hartbi01.shtml

An article in the Dec/28/1956 Beaver Valley Times says that Sterling "was born William Hart but because of another actor named William S. Hart he took his father's middle name." But the guy wikipedia says is his father has Franklin as a middle name. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1981&dat=19561228&id=CuxVAAAAIBAJ&sjid=10ANAAAAIBAJ&pg=900,2934975

imdb has a similar note about being the son of a Cubs catcher but gives the name as Walter Hart. But there seems to be no Walter Hart to have ever played in the major leagues. There was a catcher with that name who played in the very low minors in the 1908-1913 time frame. His nickname was Hub. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hart--001wal

And there was a James Henry Hart who caught for the Chicago White Sox (not Cubs) from 1905-1907. His nickname was also Hub. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/harthu01.shtml DiffuseGoose (talk) 01:43, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
