Opposition to ordinations[edit]

Robert Rae Spears was for women and gays in ordained ministry, but told one potential ordinand in the late '70s that he (Spears) would not ordain him because the Holy Spirit was no longer calling straight white males to the priesthood. The priest was subsequently ordained by Spears' successor.
