Requested move[edit]

He has been known as "B.G. James" for three years, and has signed a three year contract extension with TNA, so is practically guaranteed to be known by this name throughout the forseeable future. It will save on redirects for all newly created articles. It is his real name, and he is known to be addressed as "B.G.". Finally, moving the page will allow Brian James to be made into a disambiguation page. McPhail 21:08, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • not voting (I really don't know the guy) - just wanted to remark I use the Brian James/B.G. James ambiguity as an example in Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) (proposed guideline); other remark, for what it's worth: according to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names) ("Initials in names should each be followed by a period and a space"), the more "wikipedian" spelling of the name with abbreviations would be B. G. James, but that's a page apparently already taken by a politician, so (if not swapping the politician somewhere else) a possibility would be B. G. James (wrestler) (or something to that effect). I suppose Brian Gerard James is not being used frequently enough to consider? Lastly Google test shows that it's probably BG James that is used most often to refer to this wrestler (if wanting an exception to the point+space after abbreviation rule, maybe turning to the most common per general wikipedia naming conventions rule is after all preferable). --Francis Schonken 09:50, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, BG James would probably be preferable, as the TNA website does not include periods in his name (although they are acknowledged as being his initials). I think it would be preferable to avoid suffixing the article name with a bracketed qualifying term for aesthetic reasons. McPhail 16:32, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Technically the move can be operated without needing admin intervention. I leave that up to you: breaking off the vote might have the risk others would contest the "unconventional" abbreviation later. If not breaking it off you could also change the move request to "BG James" here and on the WP:RM page. It's also possible to sit it out like it is now, and see what happens. (but that might be not too much, I'm still not voting) --Francis Schonken 18:10, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vote results[edit]

The proposer of the vote appears to have changed his original proposition (move to B.G. James) to:

Since no other people voted, this seems the most likely choice. Because of the backlog on WP:RM, I remove the topic there. All redirects disentangled (as far as I can see). Brian James is a disambig page now. --Francis Schonken 18:19, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Real name[edit]

What is his real name? The article says he was born Brian Gerard James but then it afterwards says he is the son of Bob Armstrong. Was Armstrong an absent father and he took his mother's last name or was he born Brian James Armstrong? (Lostkiwi 21:40, 11 June 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Bob Armstrong is the ring name of Joseph James. VelvetKevorkian 02:36, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

I came to this page looking for a motorcycle I read about years ago in Cycle Magazine or Cycle World or something. That motorcycle was home-built and over 20 feet long. I don't have much information about it, but it was called Road Dog. Wikipedia could use a disambiguation page for people who aren't looking for the wrestler.

Ah, I found it! It's listed under Roadog, not Road Dog, but if I can't figure out how to create a disambiguation page then I'd really appreciate it if someone else could. Incidentally, it was only 17 feet long; a bit shorter than I remembered.

He is such a loser i mean seriously him and dat idiot billy gunn declared war on the wwe just cos their asses got fired they really need 2 get ova themselves and really brian said he would go bak 2 wwe if they would have him but but seriously y would the wwe waste their time on a crybaby.TNA is a waste of time Samoa Joe is the only decent wrestler on dat show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.72.233.105 (talk) 05:14, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rejoining WWE[edit]

I'm a bit confused - I just watched a shoot interview where Road Dogg and Billy Gunn just tore right into Vince McMahon... yet it says on this page that he's said he'd happily rejoin WWE? He stated, quite clearly here that he would never go back to WWE! [[1]] --212.84.125.251 (talk) 19:41, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Road Dogg's WWA World Heavyweight Championship reign[edit]

For years, this victory apparently occurred on October 19, 2001, and was supported by a Solie.org cite: [2]. 124.176.237.176 is intent on removing Road Dogg's WWA reign, claiming that it never happened. After a series of unsupported reverts, he finally produced this OWOW cite: [3]. Since there's no mention of the title being defended on the card, he uses that as his justification for Road Dogg never having won the title.

After some investigation, it seems that the date on the Solie cite may be incorrect. OWOW does indeed report Road Dogg as having won the WWA title, but on October 23: [4]. The Internet Wrestling Database, Profightdb.com, also supports this: [5]. As for now, I've placed both dates in the Brian Gerard James and WWA World Heavyweight Championship articles, with cites supporting both dates. Hopefully we can establish consensus. Given that OWOW and the IWDB are reporting James as a WWA Champion, I've no doubt that it happened: establishing the correct date is the only issue. I think the Solie cite has possibly confused the date of the first WWA event (19), with the date of the first WWA Championship reign (23). 90.201.91.232 (talk) 08:15, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It did NOT happen. The differing dates are the proof of this. Neither are correct and as long as the anomaly exists the accuracy of the claim is under enough question for it to be removed. Solie.org is now investigating their own source after they were told by someone who was there in Perth (not me) that the claim for Perth was not correct. They were relying on a non wrestling sports person who was also at the event in Perth, but as he wasn't conversant with wrestling storylines he did not understand what the real lack of significance of James holding the belt in Perth was. The other person who IS conversant with storylines said that James only held the title up in a gesture of confidence for the pay per view in Sydney (AFTER Canberra). I'm not saying this to convince you of changes here. I know what OR is. But Solie.org acept the evidence and that's why they are looking into it. Now unless you can prove with sources that it DID happen in Canberra - given the other sources do say Perth - I say it stays as I had it. Until we have this sorted out once and for all. 124.176.237.176 (talk) 12:50, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All cites support James as the champion, though. The only detail in question is the date. What flawed logic to suggest that because there are differing dates, he never held the title. Early pressings of Queen's Live at Wembley were printed with the wrong date. Does that mean the show never happened? You vandalism will yet again be reverted. 90.201.91.232 (talk) 13:39, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No matter who is correct on this subject, false accusations of vandalism against another user is an abuse of WP:CIVIL whether it be on a talk page or in an edit summary. 124.176.237.176 has made the valid attempt to explain his edits. Career vandals, as you've taken to calling him, do not bother to do so. The talk pages are for constructively discussing how to make the article better and gaining consensus. They are not for insults or making accusations. Please keep talk pages and edit summaries civil. NJZombie (talk) 13:52, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's passive aggression, nothing more. The only thing in question is the date this man won the title, not whether or not he did win it. 90.201.91.232 (talk) 16:16, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of how you want to justify it, it's incivility. That is unacceptable. According to WP:NOT3RR, vandalism reverts are exempt if the item being reverted is obvious vandalism. There is no obvious vandalism present as the other user is presenting an argument and not being disruptive. The multiple reverts within one day by BOTH parties are also unacceptable. NJZombie (talk) 16:19, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"the other user is presenting an argument and not being disruptive". Sure, removing cited material for OR reasons isn't disruptive. Whatever. 90.201.91.232 (talk) 18:23, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Something being cited doesn't mean that it can't be removed. The user has questioned the validity of the source and has disclosed his reasoning. Regardless of who's correct, neither user's frequent reverts are justified. NJZombie (talk) 18:33, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest this page and the other page (WWA title) be semi protected until this is resolved with my edit the last. The owner of Solie.org got back to me and has placed this title reign in dispute. Tanabe advised him that he now also questions it. I believe Solie.org does have a disputed title section so it should appear there soon if it hasn't already (I'll check). So both of the cites that are being claimed here are now officially under question. I take on board the edit war situation, NJ Zombie, but you're right about the other IP's conduct. I do have a valid objection and he or she should address that and stop reverting my edits as he has IDed in the edit summaries - which are flagrantly untrue. 124.176.237.176 (talk) 21:49, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My IP is different now off a rebooted modem, but to avoid an edit war I ask that an established editor delete the WWA title claim. It's bogus and the sources named question it themselves. I am presently investigating this through other more reliable sources and trying to find people who were there and know what actually happened. So are the other sites. I know that's OR (hence why I'm holding the revert myself) but it's a start, and such evidence should we get it WILL convince the owners of Solie.org and Wrestlingtitles.com that the claim is bogus and they will remove it from their site. I have included the promoter Andrew McManus in my contact list and have asked that a statement be made if they are prepared to. 203.51.163.195 (talk) 21:58, 17 March 2012 (UTC) (previously 124.176.237.176)[reply]

Why would anyone delete the claim? The fact remains that James is listed as WWA Champion by three different sources; the only detail in question is the date. Solie isn't the only source here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.91.232 (talk) 05:13, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The claim should be deleted because all three sources are wrong. And I am endeavouring to prove this in a manner acceptable to Wikipedia. 58.168.133.183 (talk) 08:33, 1 April 2012 (UTC) (previously 124.176.237.176)[reply]
And three years on, you haven't been able to do that. Obvious trolling in retrospect - Road Dogg was absolutely a WWA World Heavyweight Champion. 82.132.220.3 (talk) 16:48, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Girard JamesRoad Dogg – "Road Dogg" is the name under which the individual achieved his greatest fame and under which he is currently performing. He is semi-retired and unlikely to go on to greater fame under a different name. 596,000 Google hits for "Road Dogg", 9,930 for "Brian Girard James". Relisted. Any particular reason that the middle name is used?--199.91.207.3 (talk) 14:56, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For disambiguation, I think. James has never performed as, or been widely known as, "Brian Girard James". McPhail (talk) 20:26, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
