Can someone explain why this page needs a cleanup? Looks fine to me... Mattmm 13:57, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Criticism of Gresford disaster The phrase by an "extended "jam" for the next 2.5 minutes using a sound that might be an electronically distorted version of Ric Sanders' violin. It has a wailing sound that seems to be pain." could well do with a cleanup. Even apart from the dubious critical input the English is lousy. Is there a source for this criticism is it just author's personal opinion? The guitar sound 2:30 in does not appear to be using any particular excess of reverb. The main effect is vibrato well turned up, probably from a Fender Amp. The track is well regarded in circles I've moved in, and was a significant contributor to Graeme Taylor's reputation. I can remember considerable disappointment when the Home Service played the track at Cropredy in the early 80s without the extended instrumental.

Is there a source for this criticism?

  • Yes
  • "The track comes close to being ruined early on by a teeth-grindingly caterwauling noise emanating from what could be a violin the sound of which has been badly distorted; imagine a sort of "waaawaaaaaa..." noise and you`ll get an idea. However, just when one is almost despairing and about to skip forward to the next track, the noise goes away and the song settles once more, with some nice guitar solo work and some more fine vocals. Phew!"

This criticism is completely unfounded. It is a violin through a guitar wah pedal, and it is not mixed louder than the other instruments. This song and album are not "divided by criticism"; this is one person's opinion on an Amazon review and is not a criticism that appears in any reviews of the album when it was first released or after. 38.81.106.137 (talk) 14:19, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
