Rio Vista Park was stole away from the owners by the state of texas[edit]

The park now public was owned by a group of private owners. In the late 60’s it was taken from them by the state. The grounds of the park where clean and there was no graffiti on the walls. It was a peaceful park where one could go and relax and take a break from the world. The waterfall was part of a mill that was at one end of the dam. There was a board in the middle of the dam that would regulate the flow of water. From the Dam one could catch different types of fish and a rare type of crayfish that only lived in the river. A crayfish that had been caught had been recorded weighing close to a one pound. There were fresh water eels and other types of animals.

No. Wrong park.[edit]

Rio Vista Park is not the same place complained of as having been taken. The comment should refer to the spring lake, the source of the San Marcos River, formerly within the amusement business known as Aquarena Springs. The "dam" referred to is at one of the outflows of that lake at the site of an old mill and ice house that has become a series of restaurants. The old Aquarena Springs is now held by Texas State University. In the days when it was a business, it was closely guarded, day and night, by the owners trespassing vigorously discouraged by several means, including occasional gunfire.

Rio Vista Park is a distinctly different location far down stream from the source. The area is operated as a city park. As a navigable river in Texas, the San Marcos is free to use below the source. (Free use does not imply free access.
