Trains Magazine says Colorado & North Western #30 was built in 1898, went to Morse Brothers in Denver (A locomotive dealer) after permission to abandon was granted in 1919, and went to the C&S in 1921 (Along with two other Denver & Boulder & Western locomotives; The name for the C&NW after exiting bankruptcy in 1909) in trade for five older C&S 2-8-0's. There she received her new number and later her Stephenson gear was replaced with Walschaerts in 1926. She was stored after Leadville to Climax was standard gauged in 1943 and then went back to Morse Brothers where she sat until the Rio Grande Southern bought her for $5000 in November 1948 (Arriving around Christmas in Durango).

Story about the locomotive is titled "A Narrow Gauge Boomer" by John W. Maxwell and was published in the January 1950 issue.
