Translation[edit]

Hi, the article states that "Kampf" means "war" or "battle". AFAIK, although German has several words for war, "Kampf" is not the most common one now or in the mentioned period ("Krig", "Orlog"), and also a battle would be a "Schlacht". The most generic translation of "Kampf" is "fight", so "Kampfringen" could well be "fight wrestling" as opposed to wrestling for fun. "Geselle" means "fellow" ("socius"), "geselliges" would be "among fellows, companions", sort of "social wrestling", "companionable" wrestling, wrestling while socializing ... ze Spirit of Togezerness ... but perhaps "sport" covers that.
