CIIT Centers For Health Research[edit]

What about the CIIT (formerly Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology) Centers for Health Research? That should be listed.

Merging RTP with The Triangle[edit]

The Triangle is the tri-city area of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. RTP is a park. They are two completely different things.

Indeed. RTP is a particular area located between Raleigh and Durham. It is NOT the entire region. I'm removing the merge notice, as they're completely different. TomTheHand 13:54, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NCCU[edit]

NCCU is not considered part of RTP. I understand it's within the "Triangle Region", but if NCCU is listed why not list Peace College, Meredith College, or Shaw University? North Carolina Biotechnology Center[edit]

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center is in RTP and therefore belongs in the external links, just like the National Humanities Center North Carolina Biotechnology Center (Kmtrapp (talk) 20:18, 27 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]

That's external links spam (read WP:EL) and I'm removing it, along with the other companies that don't belong in the external link section. If we allow one company to plug their website, such as you are doing in the North Carolina article and this one, then we would have to let all companies do it. Local Government[edit]

I had wondered for years why area cities had not annexed into RTP. This question was answered by a Raleigh News & Observer article on 13-Sept-2009. They are prohibited from doing so by state law. I added this fact and a citation. Unfortunately the article is already gone from the N&O's public website, though it is still cached in Google as of today. 209.42.230.223 (talk) 11:32, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The following info could be added regarding local governance. I do not have a Wikipedia account and apparently cannot edit this article. Factual?[edit]

The first statement is that it's the largest research park in the US, but the source for that does not say anything about it being the largest. Also, if 630 acres are developed for the research park, then it definitely isn't the largest--the Stanford Research Park is over 700 acres (of development). The article then says that the Triangle is "comparable to Silicon Valley," yet offers no explanation for how it's comparable. All the measures I can think of (the # tech companies, # high tech jobs, the amount $ that goes into capital investment, GDP, etc.) would say that the Triangle is not by any means comparable to Silicon Valley. One study shows that 1/3 of the capital investment last year was in Silicon Valley; in that study, I don't even see mention of the Triangle (definitely not top 8). consensus for removal of "Universities and Colleges" section?[edit]

The section on "Universities" first appeared in the revision of 18:11, 23 February 2004.

It was deleted in the revision of 01:09, 16 March 2020.

Admittedly, this section had evolved over time from listing just the three "major" post-secondary schools properly within the "Research Triangle" to a dozen schools within the "Research Triangle area". Nonetheless, it had been considered acceptable, in some form, for all this time. It seems unreasonable (notwithstanding the rationale provided) that one person can make the decision to remove it without obtaining any consensus.
