significance[edit]

The article should explain the evolutionary significance of the replicon concept.

I would suggest that replicons are important because they describe the genetic system of the organism at a high level and the genetic system has an important effect on its evolution. Replicons represent separate replicating entities and therefore have their own fitness, separate and sometimes in conflict with the fitness of the organism.
