Renuka and Yellamma[edit]

Renuka and Yellamma are two completely separate personalities. Goddess Yellamma is an expansion of Durga-devi, who appeared to save the life of Renuka--the wife of sage Jamadagni. There are several versions to this Hindu narrative but most do not depict these two as identical. Rather, they are inseparable companions and most temples in India have two deities--a deity of Yellamma accompanied by a deity of Renuka.

I agree, Renuka and Yellamma seem like totally different deities, since the Devi Renuka temple, at Mahur, Maharashtra, is mentioned in Devi Bhagawatam, as one of Devis important shrines, and is regarded as a Shakti Peetha, it is hard to imagine her as the same goddess as Yellamma, who is often projected as the goddess to low caste people, if not as a gram devta. Though Yellamma might be a later development out of Renuka cult! --Ekabhishek (talk) 13:59, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In Andhra Pradesh, Renuka and yellama are considered as same. They are considered as Grama devatas. They have different names in different villages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.248.14.71 (talk) 08:27, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Add'l reading[edit]

The additional reading section includes the Encyclopedia of Prostitution, but no mention of prostitution is in the current version of the article (although the goddess is mentioned in the Prostitution article). Should this article include something about daughters being dedicated to Renuka as prostitutes (as that article suggests)? IAmNitpicking (talk) 19:58, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
