I've had renal colic before. I hated it. Painkillers didn't work real well. I often puked during my renal colic attacks. Eventually, I passed a kidney stone though!

I've had renal colic too, and vomited during the entirety of it until I got some painkillers in me (morphine was the only thing that worked very well). Yuck.

Diclofenac better than opioids?[edit]

I question this assertion, as for acute sharp renal colic at least. Only urgent analgosedation provides better relief from acute severe renal colic, than does carefully titrated morphine together with an antispasmodic, in my experience.--84.163.114.46 (talk) 22:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As per my experience, NSAIDs such as ketorolac do provide very good pain relief from renal colic, at least for a limited amount of time. The NSAIDs cannot be consumed for long periods of time however. --IO Device (talk) 20:43, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal experience shows that the use of a morphine drip is set up due to the immense pain involved. Physicians need to remember, that failure to treat pain is against the law in several US states, and can lead to revocation of their license. If you are a physician, and will not prescribe adequate pain medication, then you need not be a physician.--Craxd (talk) 03:25, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My personal experience is that UK hospitals will give you a large PR diclofenac to get the pain under control, and then maintain you with dihydrocodeine. Although I've also had large IV opiates to knock me out so they can reassess me after some hours ... probably depends how disruptive your howling is. Article needs rewriting or deleting[edit]

It is actually about renal stones, and not well written at that. It may as well go or redirect, but for the fact kidney stones are just one cause of renal colic.

I agree. This article sounds more like an article for kidney stones, and not the colic itself. Renal colic can have several causes.--Craxd (talk) 03:28, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
