Error on meaning?[edit]

There seems to be a confusion for the meaning of that name, which is cognate to Rognvald, Reynold, Ronald, etc. The best sources I can find all say the same thing as the page for Ronald or Reginald:

"This Germanic name is composed of two elements: the first ragin, meaning "advice", "counsel", "decision"; the second element is wald, meaning "rule", "ruler"."

But on this page and the one for Ragnall, it's:

"This Old Norse name is composed of two elements: regin, meaning "(German)" Gods; and valr, meaning "powerful"." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.37.88.20 (talk) 18:34, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wiktionary and Wikipedia ruin this name by giving a baby name etymology. The prefix "regin" means (Germanic) "Gods". It can also mean "powerful", as well as be used as an emphatic prefix. Rendered as "very" or "solemnly", for example. Or more literally "godlike".

Thus the name could be rendered as "Very Loyal", "Godlike Fidelity", "Powerfully Faithful". 79.106.203.114 (talk) 11:12, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
