Untitled[edit]

Found multiple reference to Joseph Nourse, "first" Register of the Treasury, for example:

  • "In a career spanning 52 years, Nourse, the first register of the treasury..." (A Tale of Two Bureaucrats Joseph Nourse, Oliver Wolcott Jr., and the Forerunners of American Public Administration Richard D. White, Jr. Louisiana State University )
  • "America’s First Civil Servant As first Register of the Treasury, Joseph Nourse was a highly respected and distinguished civil servant. " (The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America)
  • "Nourse, Joseph, register of the treasury..." (Appletons Encyclopedia entry for Joseph Nourse)

Sound like he ought to head up this list. But there's a big gap from him to the next individual. -- btphelps (talk) 20:26, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
