Whitaker Forest[edit]

The 1870 logged west side of Redwood Ridge is partly managed by UC (Whitaker Forest) and SNF.

The Homepage of the Center for Forestry at UC Berkeley says,

Restrictions currently prohibit the cutting of large giant sequoia trees and disallow any animal grazing. Manipulative research is allowed pending approval by the research subcommittee. [[1]]

I believe expressing it like that (currently), means the status could be changed anytime and is not generally accepted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.49.227.91 (talk) 00:05, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Noteworthy Trees[edit]

Castro tree: The book "Giant Sequoias" ( Hartesveldt, Harvey, Shellhammer, Stecker 1981) mentions there was cone research done in a Castro tree in R.M. Grove. However, there seems to be also a Castro telescope tree in Freeman Creek Grove. Is anything known from the Redwood Mountain Castro tree ? --rosetta
