I did not concern myself with historical facts or data; only on redundant contents and re-writing as neccessary. Babyrina2 06:47, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

I have assessed this article as start per the Milhist criteria. This was primarily due to its lack of inline citations, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. We can't have bare external links in the text. I also think it can be expanded a lot in places, particularly WWII and WWI. I think you need to move the text in the National service article into a new article: Recruitment into the British Army during World War Two. That article should be developed and then summarised using summary style. If you have any questions, my talkpage is always open. Woody (talk) 14:20, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current debate on whether to cap numbers of recruits from Commonwealth countries should also be added, also refer to specific exceptions to recruiting in the UK such as Gurkhas, I believe that there's a reasonable number of Fijians currently in teh Army too. Copyedits, hanging sentences etc[edit]

HLGallen, as per your message on my talk page, from what I’ve seen of your edits (I’ve only looked at the first section concerning the 18th Century), the edits look positive and improve the article. I would have still liked to have kept part of the last line concerning troop levels in 1793. ``The Army was neglected as never before and total strength in 1793 stood at 40,000. `` As for the sources, please go-ahead and change to book and real publisher, as long as we don’t lose the inline citations. --Rockybiggs (talk) 12:09, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the requested text. HLGallon (talk) 20:08, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you--Rockybiggs (talk) 20:38, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Present Commonwealth & foreign recruitment[edit]

The Ministry of Defence now caps the number of recruits from Commonwealth countries at 10% of any corps or regiment in the Army, although this will not affect the Gurkhas. If the trend continues 10% of the army will be from Commonwealth countries before 2012. The cap is still debated, as some fear the army's "Britishness" is being diluted, and employing too many could make the army seen as employing too many mercenaries

the section above suggests that such a cap has been implemented yet the article cited only states that the MoD has only discussed it, not implemented it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.178.182.99 (talk) 22:13, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current recruitment[edit]

The section 'From National Service to all-professional army' could use more inline references, but my main concern is that it gives no indication of the present (as of October 2018) army recruitment crisis since the process was outsourced to Capita, as discussed by the Commons Defence Select Committee. 'Contemptible Little Army'[edit]

First World War section: 'It was abundantly clear that the army that the Kaiser had referred to as a "contemptible little army" would need thousands more recruits.' But: 'The Kaiser it was said, had referred to the British troops as "a contemptible little army". It is now known that the phrase emanated not from the German side, but from the closets of British propagandists who needed something memorable and incisive to inspire the troops. The phrase was actually devised at the War Office by Sir Frederick Maurice and fathered upon the Kaiser.'
