Details[edit]

Some investigation and googling suggests that this Ray Miller may be John Raymond Miller, born April 19, 1896 in Reading, Pennsylvania, who on his 1917 draft registration card here is described as a musician, living in Terre Haute, Indiana. That person seems (from genealogy records) to have married Katharine Mary Mays, and died on May 2, 1974. He was buried at Sinking Spring Cemetery, Pennsylvania - here. However, this is somewhat speculative and uncorroborated, so it would not be right to add it to the article. It may help guide others, though. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:00, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PS: The same person, apparently, is recorded as Raymond J. Miller in the 1930 US census here, unmarried and living alone at 3227 Powelton Ave., Philadelphia - born in Pennsylvania; age 33, occupation: "musician", industry: "orchestra". There is a discussion thread here (mentioned at one point in the article but now removed) in which someone who may be his granddaughter says: "I am 99.9% sure he is my grandfather who died in 1974. My grandfather, J. Raymond Miller, made records a long time ago - 78's.... He was born in 1896. In fact, he only came into our family in the mid 1930's and in his scrapbook there is a newspaper article in which he states he retired from the music scene in 1933. I wanted him to be remembered but I wasn't ready to find out he was very popular during 1920 to 1930 recording many 78's... I know he lived until 1974 (outside the music business). I'd like to do more research on him to find out why he settled on living out his days in Reading, PA..... For some reason Pop Miller did not talk about his early days other than to say he made some records and played drums." Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:39, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
