Untitled[edit]

Can anyone find a list of who he fought at the 1988 Olympic Games?

I'm pretty sure he also lost a K-1 match to Remy Bonjasky. Can someone get the year of that?

Nothing against Ray. I was a big fan ever since I saw him fight in the Olympic Trials. However, Wikipedia has him listed in a compilation of famous former Marines. I believe Ray Mercer was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, not the Marine Corps.

1988 Olympic Games - Mercer fought Rudolf Gavenciak(CZE), Luigi Gaudiano(ITA) in the quarterfinals, Arnold Vanderlyde(HOL) in the semifinals, and Baik Hyun-Man(KOR) in the finals to win the gold medal.

Military service?[edit]

Does anyone have a reliable reference for Mercer's military service. I've found conflicting references that say he served in the Marines and in the Army. — ERcheck (talk) 00:36, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can attest that I had direct contact with him at Smith Barracks in Baumholder, Germany just after his Olympic medal-winning performance. He had been recently promoted to Sergeant in the US Army. As I recall, he was in 1/39 Inf (AAA-0). *Knowing to add the term "Baumholder" to a Google serach for Mercer made it easy to find a cite. I added it to the article.--SEWalk (talk) 15:27, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ray Mercer is a certified bad ass. I hope this guy gets all of the respect he deserves. - Jklun —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.90.55.195 (talk) 15:31, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

mma record discussion[edit]

STOP TAMPERING with this mma record box. people here have put time and effort to make it look clean. stop trying to fix what isn't broken people. As it stands , it is 1 fight with exhibition ( 0-1) and his official pro record 1-0)

Could someone explain what a "Mixed martial arts pro-exhibition match record" is. I've never read that on any other fighters page. I think this is just an attempt to undercut what Mercer did to Sylvia. That section should be removed since it has little bearing and the simple fact that no other fighter has a goofy "Pro-exhibition match" record. (HT to ??) Jklun —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.90.55.195 (talk) 03:07, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added the mma record 1st, someone then added "loss to kimbo" with no tally.I removed it, the next day they added it to spite it.^^I agree it should be removed.I should report to wiki if it re appears again.-Drake

Go ahead and report it because it deserves to be listed on this page. I will satisfy everyone and list it as his EXHIBITION MATCH record. I have never attempted to add it to his pro-record. Regarding, "I've never read that on any other fighters page" it is on Kimbo's page and in both cases it is significant as it establishes the fighters first steps into MMA. If it is worth enough to mention in the article, it is worth enough to highlight in a box for anyone who is curious as to when and where it happened. Thanks for the "moron" comment too Drake. Boxing reccord error[edit]

You one who edited the reccord didnt do it proberbly. He tryed to put wat ray mecer had at just befot the fight but for that to work you need a random boxing stating his finaly reccord ( witch doesnt make it look good at all ). So the proper way to do it is to put the record that end up after the so mentioned fight. Am gona correct it - GSP-RuSh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GSP-Rush (talkcontribs) 10:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
