This need to be renamed, but to what?[edit]

The result of the move request was: No consensus to move. Editors who want to take note of the planned renaming could add something about it to the article text of Era Alaska. In my personal opinion it would be unusual if we renamed the Wikipedia articles before the airline has even put up any web site under the new name. The delay could mean that they aren't sure. Era Alaska → ? – So, Era is rebranding again. Here is the press release :[1]. As you can see it says that Era Alaska will be renamed "Ravn Alaska" while Era Aviation will be renamed "Corvus Airlines" and Hageland and Frontier will become "Ravn Connect." I thought "Era Aviation" ceased to exist the last time they rebranded a few years ago and it was all called "Era Alaska" now. by the way, we still have an article on Era Aviation as well. So....uh... obviously we need to do some renaming, and possibly some merging. But what should be renamed to what or merged where, not so sure. I suspect that they mean that "Era Aviation" was the brand name they used for the mainline airline, while Hageland and Frontier were used to brand their bush flights. With the latest rename, the mainline flights would be called "Corvus" (akin to being the Alaskan version of "American Eagle" in relation to American Airlines) would be called "Ravn Connect", and the group would be "Ravn Alaska" (similar to AMR Corporation in relation to American Airlines) Though, this really wastes all that publicity they got from the TV show, as they won't even use the name "Era". -- 70.50.148.122 (talk) 11:01, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The way I'm reading it, it seems to be saying that three airlines, Era Aviation, Hageleand, and Frontier, were all merged into Era Alaska in 2010 but continued to operate more or less separately as divisions within the lager organization, and that they are simply renaming those divisions now, so Era Aviation is not so much "defunct" as it is a division of Era Alaska (now Ravn Alaska) that is now to be renamed Corvus. The press release was just the first thing I found on Google and I hoped getting straight fromt he horse's mouth might help clarify what was what, but I actually became aware of it because I heard this news story ont the Alaska Public Radio Network. This is kind of big news. If you are flying between any of the three largest cities in Alaska you probably go with Alaska Airlines. If you are going to any of the dozens of smaller cities by air, Era or one of it's divisions is probably your only choice. The airline's website still refers to the name as "Era Alaska" with a bulletin stating "We are changing are name to Ravn". Give it time and when the website update to the new name then the article can be renamed. 68.119.73.36 (talk) 05:04, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't all that difficult. Rename this to Ravn Alaska, rename Era Aviation to Corvus Airlines, and create a new Ravn Connect that Hageland Aviation Services and Frontier Alaska can refer to. Perhaps even merge those latter two to create Ravn Connect if that's deemed helpful. The real question is when to do this; I agree that it might be best to wait a month or so, see when the official branding has changed. mild edit war regarding current situation[edit]

What I think I'm seeing is that some users are coming here in the good-faith belief that bankruptcy=done forever. That is often not the case, and given the current situation it will likely be several years before there is a real answer to whether they will operate again, unless they sell of all their assets, which are substantial. couple issues[edit]

We've got basically repeated content about the recent sales in two different sections, that should be consolidated. Perhaps a subsection about the distribution of their former assets?

Yute Air. I'm a bit confused as the article on Yute Air says they were renamed "Flight Alaska" 20 years ago and were gobbled up by Ravn after that, and went out of business entirely in 2017. Yet somehow they still do exist (Pretty darn sure I saw their terminal with my own eyes when I was in Bethel a few months ago) and bought a chunk of Ravn's assets. This discrepancy needs to be investigated and untangled.

"New Ravn" isn't the actual name of anything[edit]

Seems like nobody ever wants to actually discuss anything at this article, but I'll give it a go once again as that is how we are supposed to resolve minor content disputes. Perhaps my characterization of the resumption of operations as an "emergence from bankruptcy" was incorrect. That's fine, but I don't think we should be calling it "New Ravn Alaska" unless there is some evidence that that actually is it's name, which as of right now, I have not seen. In point of fact the Alaska Public Media reference used in the "New Ravn" section explicitly says that Ravn is attempting to resume normal commercial operations, and that they have formed "Ravn Travel" as a workaround to get at least some flights going while they resolve legal issues.
