update[edit]

Ranch to Market Road 1 redirects here, however while checking Google Maps for a project of mine, I discovered a separate RM1. I have also found many instances within Google Maps where the roads are marked Ranch Road x. I have always listed them on-wiki as a Ranch to Market Road. I need some clarification on what to do. As I understand the situation, Ranch Road 1 is a special designation for the road that runs by LBJ's house. RM 1 is a separate road. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 15:07, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Should RM1 stop redirecting here? and are there any other ranch roads in Texas? I'm a beginner at working on these roads, so I'm not sure. Griffinofwales (talk) 15:10, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, I took a look at the TxDOT highway designation files. If you search for RM 1, it says 'No documents matched the query "RM near "01"'. If you search for RR without a number, it gives you RR 1 and only RR 1. So I would guess that there is no Ranch-to-Market Road 1, and Ranch Road 1 is the only Ranch Road designation in Texas. (There is an FM 1 though). —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 15:18, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Google Maps shows a RM1 not too far (around 20 miles) away from RR1. I'm assuming it is incorrect per the Street view photo. Do you happen to know of a reliable source for a list of FM & RM roads. To my knowledge, the Texas DOT does not have such a list, just individual entries for each road. Griffinofwales (talk) 15:30, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you select "FM" or "RM" from the highway designation file page and do not enter a number, then it will list all highways in that category, ten at a time. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 15:34, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, Most on-line and Navigator maps are full of errors and outdated information. There's contests out there to find the most absurd errors in Googlemaps, with some pretty amazing results. I've never seen a written-rule, but the un-written rule among most of us who edit roads is not to rely on them as a source without adequate backup. Dave (talk) 16:15, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
