Prologue[edit]

I have seen "Ragtime-the Musical" on Broadway, and the National Touring Company as well as a pre-Broadway run of it in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and i do not remember the PROLOGUE, being referred to as "Hi Michael Tyler", can somebody please fix this (not sure, never used wikipedia's edit before this) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.42.116.70 (talkcontribs)

Budget[edit]

Would someone please check the 11mil budget fact? "The Capeman" which opened within days of this gained much notoriety for being the most expensive broadway show at 11 mil, but until I read this article I would have assumed that "Ragtime" was a hit. But, if the author is correct and "Ragtime" wasn't financially successful then shouldn't it be mentioned in the same company as "Capeman"?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.146.202 (talkcontribs)

The actual amount that was spent on Ragtime will probably never be known with accuracy, as Garth Drabinsky, the head of the producing company, Livent, was sentenced last month to seven years in prison for fraud and forgery related directly to Livent's financing from 1993 to 1998, the timeframe in which Ragtime was written and produced. At the time, there were widespread rumors of "creative" financing techniques to support such a huge physical production. Anyone who saw any of the original Livent productions (Toronto, LA, NY, the first two tours) knows the cost must have been enormous; you could see that onstage. It was visually opulent, with probably the largest cast and orchestra Broadway will ever see again. Many people felt Ragtime failed financially because the show had been so lavishly overproduced there was no possible way for it to make a profit. You can find more details in Wikipedia's article on Mr. Drabinsky. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.234.41.17 (talk) 21:59, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poland[edit]

Apparently, this has been playing in Poland since September 2007, and it is booking until this September, so the Warsaw production was probably successful. However, the only evidence of a Polish production is on the licensing for "Ragtime" official website. Can someone add something about the Polish version?

Synopsis[edit]

I agree the synopsis is long, but it's actually just a sentence or two to explain each song.24.188.235.4 (talk) 01:22, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ragtime has an unusually long running time for a Broadway show and, like the novel it's based on, intricately interweaves three separate stories. A long synopsis is not out of place for this complex, highly acclaimed, multiple award winning work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.234.41.17 (talk) 20:56, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Original Toronto airing[edit]

There are alot of songs added and removed to the new revival, from the original Toronto run. Is it possible that we could add those under a new section? Smashbrother101 (talk) 01:07, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Instrumentation[edit]

This paragraph has multiple issues:

1. The first sentence mentions a total of 26 musicians, but then details 27 positions.
2. The fourth reed doublings mentioned in the second sentence ("fourth on bass clarinet, clarinet, flute, and soprano sax") do not match the same doublings mentioned in the last sentence as being "in the original Broadway production".
3. There is only one trombone mentioned in the list of 26 musicians, but "In the original West End production, the fourth woodwind part and bass trombone parts were removed." According to the first sentence, there was no bass trombone part to be removed. --Thomprod (talk) 16:46, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Re-worked this section, added Wikilinks and citations. --Thomprod (talk) 18:02, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Songs from Ragtime 1996 Suggestion[edit]

The original cast list has a column labeled "Songs from "Ragtime" 1996" but there is no explanation of what this is in the article. A short excerpt from this page [1] may be useful.--Thomprod (talk) 15:57, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
