Article title[edit]

Since this RAF station will transfer formally to the Army in July 2012, should

the whole article be renamed;
a new article created when the name of the barracks is announced;
the article edited to show RAF Kinloss as part of its history?

Two other units where the Army have taken over (RAF Abingdon and RAF Bruggen) have retained their RAF titles, there may be more units with similar circumstances (which would indicate a convention). I would make sure that there is a redirect in place for the new unit title (e.g. Dalton Barracks redirects to RAF Abingdon). Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 08:49, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

With no history at all of Army use it should stay as it is with a redirect from for barracks. New use should just be mentioned in current article and can be spun out later if the barracks become of note. MilborneOne (talk) 18:06, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed: this is a mixed site now. Some RAF operations continue alongside the new Army operations and there has been no name change. Dormskirk (talk) 18:20, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As added to the article - on 26 July 2012 at 1200 the RAF Ensign will be lowered for the last time, and it will be replaced by the flag of 39 Engineer Regiment (Air Support), Royal Engineers. Article Split?[edit]

The article naming of the RAF Kinloss page appears to have become slightly confused over time. The article name and URL is "RAF Kinloss" whereas the bold text in the first paragraph and Infobox title says "Kinloss Barracks". I would suggest it is perhaps time to create a separate page for Kinloss Barracks with a section briefly highlighting the previous RAF use and retain the existing RAF Kinloss page for the history of RAF station with a section on the closure and transfer to army. It is now nearly five years since the station was transferred and I would suggest that the barracks is notable itself. For example, the barracks have also had rumours of closure with plenty of media coverage and the site was considered for the first UK space port. Although the airfield is still a relief landing ground the only significant RAF unit left would appear to be 663 VGS, alough the MOD announced in March 2016 it would be disbanding at some point. The precedents mentioned in the article title section below are noted, however the RAF Abingdon page has now been split into an RAF Abingdon and Dalton Barracks page which would seem to be the tidier option. As a member of the Barracks' Headquaters, I see two options for the future of this entry:

1. Rename the page to "Kinloss Barracks", but keep all existing content. In effect this would be a new chapter in a shared history. A section can be added which reads to the effect of: "In 2014 RAF Kinloss was closed as an RAF station and came under command of the Army; becoming formally known as Kinloss Barracks."

2. Split the pages, the the existing RAF Kinloss page being renamed "RAF Kinloss (former RAF Flying Station).
