Off-article observations[edit]

Note the width of this road; the land-take was originally intended to facilitate a dual-carriageway with a jersey barrier in the centre and two lanes plus hard shoulder in each direction. After the brain-dead suggestion by the anti-roads lobby that the first phase be composed of a bus lane running outside that hard shoulder was subject to ridicule and had to be abandoned, this section was redesigned to ensure there was only room for a bus lane plus single traffic lane. However the blithering idiots (can I say that?) didn't realise that the route had little bus potential (no access to populated areas for half its route) - but they decided to plonk barricades in the bus-lanes - just in case they might be used. This road cost over €40 million to acquire the land and build. Doubtless when this situation comes to public notice CIE will be commissioned to run empty buses up and down the lanes - at more cost to the taxpayer.
