Prominent former members[edit]

I wonder about sourcing for this list. I knew several of those named during my time there, so I can personally vouch for them, but that's not good enough for Wikipedia. How do we find a good source(s). --Pete (talk) 07:46, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

G'day, Pete, yes I share your concerns. I actually think it might be necessary to remove it as it seems a bit indiscriminate. That said, if you are keen to try to source it, I certainly wouldn't oppose that. Some references might be found in local newspapers (if you have access to Proquest or something similar it might be possible to search for some). I think the regimental association's newsletters might also offer a source, although they aren't "third party" as such. I'm a keen reader of the QURA newsletters, and, lacking biographies, I think that they are reasonably authoritative. It's not as if this list is under dispute or anything, I'm just concerned that we need a source for each entry. Gday gents. Sorry didn't see this thread and just reverted an entry for a MAJ GEN Wayne Barclay, probably should have checked here first. Apologies. Are you able to verify if he exists / is notable? I couldn't find anything on him but am only able to do Google searches ATM as I'm on cse. Will revert myself if it can be verified of course. Thanks. The QURA website lists a MAJ W G BARCLAY as a current mbr which might be him, although he doesn't appear to be a MAJ GEN. Thoughts? Anotherclown (talk) 11:00, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable[edit]

Hi, pls see "regiment lost its mortar and machine-gun platoons". At no time in the 80s or early 90s did QUR have a MG platoon. I don't know if this is an error in Paul's book or an editor error. If somebody has access to the book, it should be checked pls. QUR did not exercise its freedom of the City of Brisbane in 1986 but rather, was granted the freedom at that time. I have the parade programme and can provide a copy of the decree from that, which granted the freedom. There was a pioneer platoon. I am not certain if it was disbanded in mid 1983 or 1984. The D&E platoon (or rather - a section) was formed from its remnants. I would have to dig up my records that might confirm the date. I appreciate the requirement for reliable sources. However, a support Company two years after 1982 consisting of "mortars, signals, demonstration and employment platoons and intelligence section" might be in doubt. If this is what Paul's book says, then that is what it says. I note that none of the prominent former members currently listed are supported by citations that they were former members. I don't suggest that they should be removed (even if wiki says so) but that there are many others who are at least as prominent who aren't there - I can think of two major generals and a brigadier with a CMC (I think), just of the top of my head.
