"Royal with cheese" in Germany[edit]

The sentence The "Royale with Cheese", as famously explained in the film Pulp Fiction, is not, in fact, a name for the Quarter Pounder with Cheese anywhere. is incorrect, since the QP is called "Royal mit Käse" (literally "Royal with cheese") in Germany (cf. http://www.mcdonalds.de/produkte/produkt-profil?productName=hamburger_royal_mit_kase and even under his english name in this variation: http://www.mcdonalds.de/produkte/produkt-profil?productName=royal_cheese_double ). --82.83.49.181 (talk) 07:39, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sodium Daily Requirements[edit]

Wikipedia's default for Food Nutrition infoboxes seems to declare 1500 mg for Sodium yet the McDonald's site shows 2200 mg. Growing up I am used to 2200 mg. Who decided 1500 mg for Wiki's default? Warshington (talk) 03:40, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We request the deletion of the sentence "Quarter Pounder" is a trademark in the United States, but restaurants in other countries have been able to use similar names for their own products, such as the British Wimpy chain's "Quarterpounder."[16]. This illustrates that the sentence currently visible on the Quarter Pounder Wikipedia page is factually incorrect. Additionally, if Wimpy were authorised to use the Quarter Pounder trade mark, they would need to state that this use is under license. However, no where in British Wimpy's use does it state that it is using the Quarter Pounder trade mark under license, again showing that McDonald's has not authorised such use, and the sentence on Wikipedia is again factually incorrect. Just to reiterate, please delete: "Quarter Pounder" is a trademark in the United States, but restaurants in other countries have been able to use similar names for their own products, such as the British Wimpy chain's "Quarterpounder."
This is factually incorrect as no other restaurants have been permitted to use Quarter Pounder; any use by British Wimpy is unauthorised. Quarter Pounder is not just registered in the US, it's very widely registered, in 61 countries, so the statement "Quarter Pounder" is a trademark in the United States" is also misleading to readers as they may think it is only a US mark.

Thank you for providing the updated URL, it's much appreciated. It looks as if the Wimpy quarter pounder has been trademarked in the past, and that McDonald's UK trademark has been active since 2018. The claim in the article is that restaurants in other countries have been able to use similar names for their own products, such as the British Wimpy chain's Quarterpounder. As the language in that claim uses the phrase have been, and because companies like Wimpy's have been able to use this trademark (again, according to your source, in the past — although apparently this is no longer the case[a]) I don't see that the claim can technically be called 'factually incorrect'.[b] Perhaps the claim could be updated to state that "as of 2018, the UK trademark belongs to so and so" for example, that might work? Please let me know your thoughts on this.

I have searched the trade mark register but cannot see that Wimpy has ever owned a trade mark (dead or alive) for quarter pounder so I am unclear why you think quarter pounder has been trademarked in the past by Wimpy. Please can you provide me with the record you have of such trade mark so I can review it?
I am grateful for your consideration of amending the entry and once I have received the record from you, I will revert with my thoughts on the proposed amendment.

That reference is to a trademark in New Zealand; that country's intellectual property page on the trademark can be found at this link under trademark number 130130. We have reviewed this historic abandoned New Zealand mark. Bearing in mind that McDonald’s first opened in New Zealand in 1976, and that its Quarter Pounder burger was a core menu item, this mark filed 3 years later in October 1979 by Wimpy was most likely (but it’s difficult to verify with certainty owing to the period of time that has elapsed) abandoned because of action taken by McDonald’s. McDonald’s has owned the QUARTER POUNDER registrations in New Zealand since 4 December 1980. Wimpy has never owned the QUARTER POUNDER trade mark in the UK or anywhere else, nor has it been permitted to use it by McDonald’s, who own the registrations in 62 countries worldwide. So, we remain of the view that it is misleading to state that “restaurants in other countries have been able to use similar names for their own products, such as the British Wimpy chain's Quarterpounder” because their mark was in one territory only, dating back over 20 years, and was abandoned/cancelled, most likely because they were not able to keep it owing to McDonald’s prior use and rights. McDonald’s are and have been the registered owner of Quarter Pounder in New Zealand for 24 years, as well as elsewhere across the globe.
Further, if this sentence were deleted as we have requested, the remaining paragraph under the sub-heading Other fractional-pound hamburgers will read more accurately, as it focuses on other fractions, as the sub-heading indicates. Grammatical Error[edit]

"The burger comprises a beef patty weighing 4.25 oz (120 g) before cooking[12] and 3 oz. prepared, pickles, raw onion, ketchup, and mustard."

The sentence could end naturally after "prepared". If a list of condiments is included, there needs to be a conjunction like "with". Also, it's not clear if "prepared" is intended as a synonym for cooked, in which case I suggest "3 oz. prepared with pickles...". If not, then "cooked" should be added for clarity (i.e. "3oz. cooked, prepared with [list of condiments]".
