Disputed[edit]

"Miles Davis also played on these sessions but his contributions were never used." This isn't very difficult to imagine, but I haven't seen this documented anywhere. NYC tour dates:

The 1980 New York show was at the Palladium/Academy of Music. James Blood Ulmer opened. Lydon and Levene left the stage midway through the set; Wobble and Atkins continued to play, filling the room with sound for 25 minutes.

The Ritz show described here was in 1981 or -82. It was a last-minute booking when Bow Wow Wow had to cancel for immigration issues, and the audience was sparse. Tdsput (talk) 01:34, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

jamaica[edit]

the trip to Jamaica also involved an attempt at shoe-horning John Lydon into Devo... they had Devo in one room, and Lydon in another... Devo walked as soon as they realized what was happening.


The first album was known as "First Edition", wasn't it? not "First Issue".

Why is this missing from the discog and not mentioned in the history. Surely it's an important piece in musical history. I have added it along with covered and acid drops as they are listed as singles on some discogs though i can't confirm it. I believe they may have been cancelled though there are promos. It is Lydon, Wobble, Levene. Last track on the album and last to be recorded. Drums and bass and synth were done in the afternoon but there was no lyric. Sat around drinking and smoking and Jim got bored and went home. On the track, after Lydon says "Fuckin'ell thirsty work.." you can hear Keith say "This track is dragging on". All the northern Pythonesque stuff is Wobble who ran into the control room where I was to get the cigarettes, which is why he starts on about the engineer and the 'long haired hippie roadie'- me. Wobble has mistakenly claimed in his Book 'Memoires of a Geezer" that Jim Walker was there and Keith had gone home. There is no Canadian accent on the track, and Walker has voiced his disapproval.Thelisteninghand (talk) 21:46, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kate Bush[edit]

Genre[edit]

No one could seriously call PiL a rock band. It's major audience is probably avant-guard rock/pop fans, but that doesn't make them a rock band. And anyhow, the band themselves claimed to be post-rock and roll. If anyone really wants me to prove that, I can find the interview on Youtube again. I can't understand why a photograph of John Lydon is in the infobox when he isn't even listed even in the primary former members category of bandmates. What is the copyright status on those last.fm photos? Can we use any of them on Wikipedia? I agree that it would be better to have a group photo instead of just Lydon, since he was all about it being a group effort, not "his band". More tour dates[edit]

I don't know how to edit the article but wanted to let you know the number of tour dates of UK Dec 2009 is increased. Album/Compact Disc/Cassette - hommage to Repo Man?[edit]

I believe the "generic branding" of the 1986 album is an hommage to the 1984 film Repo Man, where the characters drink "beer" and eat from cans of "food". The typefaces and colours seem extrememly similar. See for example at 0:54 in the trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLGrXGEMOSo.

Inconsistency in Article Regarding Forming Members[edit]

There is an inconsistency in the current article intro section regarding the members that formed the band.

The intro first says:

Public Image Ltd (abbreviated as PiL) are an English post-punk band formed by singer John Lydon, guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker.

It then says:

Following his departure from the Sex Pistols in January 1978, Lydon sought a more experimental "anti-rock" project and formed PIL

These two statements are inconsistent. The first says that all founding members were involved in forming the band. The seconds says the band was formed by Lydon alone.

I suspect there's confusion between founding and forming members but it is beyond my knowledge to definitively correct this. I hope a fellow Wikipedian is able to do so.

Yes that is inconsistent I agreee. As the roadie, my experience at the time of what happened was that Lydon obviously wanted a new band and the first time I was involved It was Lydon and Wobble together auditioning guitarists. They both introduced themselves as John, way before the thing got a name or Mr Wardle became Wobble. John Lydon and John Wardle are aguably the founding members. There's a nice interview with Janet Street Porter "A lot of people think you're going to form a reggae band", Lydon replies " A lot of people are gonna be wrong".Thelisteninghand (talk) 22:03, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fire? There was no fire.[edit]

The article refers to Wobble letting off a fire extinguisher because Lydon had 'started a fire' this is false. The fire extinguisher was let of by Wobble to show his "frustration at society" (quoted from vocal) there was absolutely no fire. I am cited on the 'first Issue' page as being present during the recording and I am referred to in the vocal as "the long haired hippie roadie". Three members of the group were present for the vocal: Lydon, Levene and Wobble, not two. I haven't edited. Ritz Riot[edit]

The Ritz Riot could have its own heading - I have tried to provide a citation but I think there are problems with the website. Perhaps someone who isn't also a beginner could check. There are two excellent first hand accounts of the gig, one by Sounds magazine. You'll need to either copy and paste the link or go to fodderstompf.com and click the pull down menu, click Gig Archives - then scroll to 1981 New York Ritz. The Limited Company[edit]
