A fact from Pryor Mountains Wild Horse Range appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 21 June 2011 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that, because of their unique genetic makeup, the feral horses(mare and foal pictured) on the Pryor Mountains Wild Horse Range "may be the most significant wild-horse herd remaining in the U.S."?
I re-added the Sponenberg comment. First, he's an expert and did genetic studies on the herd, and has the evidence and expertise to make the judgment call. He's not some wildlife photographer swooning over how beautiful a sunset is. Second, his comment addresses the issue of whether the Spanish-descended horse is common throughout the American West, or whether horses with this genetic makeup are isolated in this area. I would conclude, therefore, that the comment is encyclopedic. It is no different than saying that the snail darter exists in a single small river in eastern Tennessee and nowhere else. I can support this fully. Sponenberg is one of, if not THE leading expert on rare horse breed preservation and equine genetics in the USA. WPEQ uses his material quite a bit to verify data in our articles. Definitely relevant to this article. Montanabw(talk) 17:08, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any reason that the article has this title when the name of the site (as shown by the illustrations and the links) is the "Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range"? I get it, it's in the Pryor Mountains and maybe the government should have called it the Pryor Mountains range, but Wikipedia is not the U.S. Department of the Interior. I'm sure that if I was to move the title and correct the many mentions that refer to it in the plural, someone would quickly revert the changes, but perhaps this was more of a case of "I know better" arrogance than it was of ignorance. As far as I can tell, there were only two instance of the use of the singular "Pryor Mountain", and 71 uses of the plural "Pyor Mountains". Thus, the two singular usages appear to be typos, and were corrected. BLM's web site inconsistently uses singular and plural. Wikipedia's guidelines for article titles say that articles should use the most commonly-used name for a thing or subject, even if the official title is something else. (The official title should be noted in the article's text.) Are you suggesting that the most commonly-used name is singular and not plural? - Tim1965 (talk) 15:24, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
